Stewards Individual Placement Program

Scientists in the Parks

Scientists-in-the-Parks (SIP)

The Scientists-in-the-Parks program is a collaboration between Stewards Individual Placements, the National Park Service, and the Geological Society of America. We match college students and recent graduates between the ages of 18 and 30 years old, or military veterans up to age 35 with short-term, paid, internships with the National Park Service. Participants may assist with research, synthesis of scientific literature, geologic mapping, GIS analysis, site evaluations, resource inventorying and monitoring, impact mitigation, developing brochures and informative media presentations, and educating park staff and park visitors. SIP positions can last from 3 months to one-year.

Learn more and apply at the Geological Society of America's website!

The application period for SIP positions is typically 6 weeks starting in December for Spring/Summer positions, and in May for Fall/Winter positions. Sometimes there are a small number of positions open outside of these windows.
